Welcome to the second cocktail spotlight: The Negroni.
The Negroni is well known for its distinct flavour and deep rich orange colour. A Red Vermouth adds sweetness and a mellow fruit flavour coupled with a Campari to add a bit of bitter and herb flavouring, stemming from the botanicals and fruits infused. This married with a solid, deep, rich gin creates a cocktail with a fruit-forward profile but a demanding and bold taste.
There are a few ways one can change and enhance the flavour of Negroni. The first and most common is a Negroni Americano. This is where you stretch the Negroni with soda water or tonic, this rounds out the flavour making it much more mellow as well as making the drink last longer.
The other thing you can do is change the base flavours of the Negroni. The easiest way to do this is by changing the base flavour of the gin. This really lets you play with flavour profiles. Use Tanqueray Flor de Sevilla for an
Orange Negroni, or add a measure of Frangelico to make a Hazelnut Negroni.
Truly Negronis are as versatile as they are drinkable, If you have your own version please share it and let me know!
L’chaim and Happy Drinking.
